Why are translations sometimes cheap and sometimes expensive?

TRANSPARENT PRICING IS IMPORTANT
You can always expect me to respond quickly to your request for a quote. Once you have confirmed your order in writing, I can start translating your text. I normally quote on the basis of the number of words in the German source text, so that you know exactly what your translation will cost before work starts. In cases where the number of words in the source text cannot readily be counted, the final bill will depend on the number of words in the target text. While I generally charge on the basis of a wordcount, I can, in the interest of transparancy, bill using different units - characters, lines, pages or hours - if so desired. Alternatively, your bill can simply reflect the fixed price agreed in advance. After all, I don't translate words or lines or characters (was that two cups of alphabet soup today or three?). I translate texts. The quantities involved correlate only roughly with the value added to your business by my services.

I don't charge extra for urgent jobs. If I can take a job on in the given time frame, I will commit myself to it fully. But if you know you have an urgent translation coming up, try to give me some advance warning!
